Brenco Industrial Services, LLC of Dallas, Texas has been awarded a contract to supply Siemens Transportation Systems, Inc. with 23 Traction Power Substations for Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) latest Southeast and Northwest corridor expansions. The contract includes an option for an additional 14 substations. Substations are used to distribute power to light rail vehicles along a light rail alignment. Brenco's contract is to manufacture and supply the substations metal housing and install the thyristor controlled rectifiers provided by Siemens and other related equipment. Production is scheduled to begin October, 2007 with the first units delivered to DART October, 2008 and in increments through 2010, the option for the additional 14 substations would be delivered in 2011.
Siemens did a thorough evaluation of Brenco to determine if they could meet the qualifications required to perform the project and Brenco passed the test. Siemens reputation and DART's willingness to award future work will be directly impacted by the performance of a very small Native American contractor. As one DART official put it "never has the spread been so great between companies as it is with Siemens and Brenco. You have a global behemoth with annual sales of $140 billion and a small Native American firm in Brenco with annual sales of $2 million. Siemens must have really liked what they saw in Brenco to stake their reputation on the shoulders of this firm." Siemens due diligence efforts gathered enough evidence to become confident that Brenco can perform the contract successfully. It is exactly the type of work that Brenco does and this is the contract that Steve has been grooming his company to be ready for. |
